Lucy Finds the Way In
Lucy steps into the wardrobe expecting to bump into a hard wooden back. Instead her hands meet hanging fur coats, soft and heavy, and when she shuffles forward there is still space. The air turns colder. A little light seems to come from deeper in, not from the spare room behind her. Before long she can no longer feel the wardrobe walls at all.
Outside London, the Pevensie children have been sent away from air raids. Peter, Susan, Edmund, and Lucy arrive at the Professor’s large country house, a place big enough to get lost in. With grown-ups busy and rooms everywhere, exploring becomes the main way to pass the time. That is how Lucy ends up alone in a spare room, closing a wardrobe door behind her, and finding that the wardrobe does not end where it should.
The moment looks like this.
