All questions are multiple choice and there is no penalty for guessing, so blanks are the only true mistake you cannot recover from. Since March 2025, official reporting uses a 200 to 600 scale rather than the older 1 to 30 scale, so compare practice scores by percent correct and pacing first, not by a single number.

Where time actually disappears
Beginners lose time by trying to perfect the hard types early. If one keyhole or TFE feels ambiguous, it is designed that way. Pick the best option, flag if your rule allows it, and keep moving. PAT rewards a steady pace more than heroic problem solving.
A simple way to self-evaluate is to track which subsection causes the biggest time spike. If your accuracy is fine but time is bad, you need faster elimination cues. If time is fine but accuracy is bad, you need slower, more systematic checking.

Your metric is simple. You should know where in the passage to look within a few seconds. If you keep rereading entire paragraphs, your method is not stable yet.

Survey of the Natural Sciences (SNS) is 100 questions in 90 minutes, usually split as Biology 40, General Chemistry 30, Organic Chemistry 30. There is no separate timer per subject, so your time management has to be deliberate.

Biology questions often reward broad understanding over memorized trivia. If you miss, label it as vocabulary gap, concept gap, or mixed systems question. Mixed systems means you knew each piece, but you did not connect them.
General chemistry
General chemistry errors are often unit or direction errors. Before doing math, name what the answer should do. Increase, decrease, shift left, shift right, higher, lower. That one sentence catches a lot of mistakes.

Organic chemistry is pattern recognition. If you are memorizing isolated reactions, your practice test review will feel like whack-a-mole. Instead, log mistakes by pattern like functional group behavior, stereochemistry, acid base strength, and mechanism step that you missed.

A practice test only helps if your review produces a plan you can execute next week. The simplest structure is an error log plus a short drill schedule.
Create an error log with four fields per miss. Question type, why you missed it, the rule you will use next time, and the smallest drill that would fix it. Smallest drill means 10 to 20 questions, timed, focused, then immediate recheck.
Two guardrails keep review honest. First, do not rewrite explanations. Extract a decision rule. Second, retest the same skill within 48 hours. If you wait a week, you are measuring memory of the solution, not improvement in the skill.
