A taste of chapter 1
Chapter 1
Bella Swan leaves Phoenix, Arizona, and the heat she knows, and goes north to Forks, Washington to live with her father, Charlie Swan. Everything about the move feels smaller and slower, from the quiet house to Charlie’s steady routines. Outside, Forks sits under constant cloud cover, with wet roads and dark trees crowding the edges of town. At home with Charlie, Bella has more space and less noise than she had before, but that also means there is nowhere to hide. In a place this contained, even buying groceries or driving through town feels like being seen.
Charlie meets her in his police cruiser and brings her to his modest place, where the newness shows in simple ways, like how little of the house feels like it belongs to her yet.
